Mathematics Education


Michelle Przybylek first realized her love for teaching as a graduate student in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan. During this time, she served as a graduate Teaching Assistant (TA). While acting as a TA for thermodynamics, she began to use techniques to encourage student discussion related to chemical engineering principles. Her positive experience as a TA led her to choose teaching as a career and apply to the TCPCG teaching program at UConn Avery Point.

Michelle has always loved mathematics and, through her engineering experience, has had the opportunity to see how mathematics is used in real-world applications. Giving students the opportunity to apply classroom mathematical concepts to real-world problems was a major goal during her student teaching experience at New London Science and Technology Magnet High School. Here, she taught Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Additionally, she endeavored to encourage mathematical discussions by students, implement Common Core standards for mathematical practice into lessons, and integrate technology into the classroom, as students received Chromebooks as part of a one-to-one implementation. She was able to continue this technology integration during her internship at Manchester High School, where she is developing Chromebook lessons to be used in a Geometry classroom.
